Cloud Technologies and Services are Evolving Quickly

For many cloud customers, keeping up with the pace of cloud innovation is aspirational. The challenge is to realize value from cloud migration without falling too far behind:

  • Chip vendors, such as Intel, NVIDIA and AMD, announce significant performance and server architecture upgrades on a yearly cadence. Keeping track of new instance offerings is a full-time job. Comparing instance offerings is even harder.
  • Big Data has given way to Data Lakes, deep learning and artificial intelligence. Analytics are clearly the future, but what do you need to know about deploying analytics in a public cloud?
  • Application deployment frameworks are moving from virtual machines to containers to Functions-as-a-Service (FaaS, aka “serverless”). How do you know when to use which? Can you do that in your region?
  • “Multi-cloud” is now an adjective, but what should a multi-cloud strategy achieve?
Sample Reports - The Liftr Cloud Components Tracker Process Levels of Magnitude The Liftr Cloud Components Tracker identifies and catalogs the prices, configurations, and components of all the Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and bare metal compute instances being deployed by tracked cloud service providers (CSPs), region by region around the entire world.

Liftr Cloud Components Tracker

Monthly reports identify and catalog the prices, configurations and components of all the Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and bare metal compute instances being deployed by tracked cloud service providers, region by region around the entire world. The Liftr Cloud Components Tracker delivers actionable industry intelligence for the entire cloud ecosystem. Cloud Service Providers can assess themselves against the market leaders. Cloud supply chain vendors can track the number and location of instances containing their product, giving IT customers and investors an objective, reliable source of instance share. Technology investors can see a real-time holistic view of both CSPs and cloud supply chain vendor success with new service deployments. Large IT-as-a-Service organizations can plan regional and worldwide deployments based on the availability of similar capabilities regionally and between cloud service providers.

Liftr Cloud Components Tracker

For example, the Liftr Cloud Components Tracker uses Market Intelligence as a Platform to measure availability, capability and pricing for public cloud services. Public cloud services are delivered from internet-attached data centers. Every month, our software systems scan cloud service provider (CSP) service description APIs to catalog their offerings, determine what hardware is in them and identify their pricing. Because we scan using DevOps, we can provide data and analysis monthly and can adapt to CSP’s changing service offerings in real time. Our approach ensures our data is compliant with SEC and other regulatory requirements.

The public cloud is just one of the markets Liftr Insights can measure through our software code and methodology. We can provide alternative data about many emerging technologies. Our Market Intelligence as a Platform is modular and extensible to other internet-attached infrastructure, including 5G, edge computing and IoT.

Liftr Cloud Regions Map

Unlike the Components Tracker, the Regions Map isn’t a product offering on it’s own. The Liftr Cloud Regions Map is an exploratory tool that allows users to discover geographic facets of the Liftr Platform Data in a live, interactive way. As a map, the tool is ideal for displaying a wide variety of slices of the data to expose new insights and ideas from Liftr’s extensive data set.

The Liftr Cloud Regions Map page shares a complimentary snapshot of data, but almost  any kind of data that Liftr Insights tracks can be loaded into the tool for a customized viewing and exploration experience. Users can quickly toggle through CSPs and the expandable dropdown information for an easy visual comparison tool.

Hedge funds and other investment managers can compare the total counts of instance types and sizes available of AMD, Intel, and Arm based processors by region with our time series data.

Accelerator growth

Fuel your investment model with data comparing the total counts of instance types and sizes available of NVIDIA, AMD, Intel, Xilinx and other accelerators by region.

Hedge funds, investment managers, and other investors should use Liftr Insights’ Market Intelligence Platform, because:

  • Internet-attached infrastructure is opaque to investors. Service providers aren’t transparent, leaving investors uncertain about their investment decisions.
  • Alternative data sources aren’t available on earnings calls. Using APIs, Liftr Insights creates alternative data describing availability, capability and pricing of Internet-attached infrastructure.
  • Liftr Insights is built on DevOps software automation, providing investors with objective quantitative alternative data on a monthly basis.

The Liftr Cloud Distiller

Liftr Insights takes a data-driven approach to cloud market analysis. At the heart of our data analytics methodology is the Liftr Cloud Distiller, our proprietary service core that compares similar products across cloud service providers. The Liftr Cloud Distiller enumerates a list of high-value IaaS and PaaS services, which enables in-depth comparisons and analysis of cloud technologies, cloud services and cloud industry trends.

Our tracking systems are built around the Liftr Cloud Distiller. Cloud Distiller currently tracks and normalizes about 200 unique types of IaaS and PaaS services. We examine each cloud service provider’s services to equate its services to our normalized services in an unbiased and equitable manner. Some cloud service providers services are complex and map into multiple normalized services, other services map one-to-one. Cloud Distiller is a many-to-many mapping of services that enables us to make a fair “apples-to-apples” assessment of a cloud service providers services offering.

We add new cloud service providers to our tracking product by first adding a cloud provider to Cloud Distiller. Then we deploy process and automation to add the cloud service providers to the Cloud Regions Map product.

If you are a Cloud Service Provider interested in being included in tracking for the Liftr Cloud Components Tracker, please contact an analyst.
