Liftr Look Ahead: API Fest
What’s the topic?
Collecting public cloud data through public cloud APIs.
Background and set up
Liftr Insights gathers public information about public clouds. But what does “gathering public information about public clouds” mean, and why should you trust us to do that?
While public clouds post human-readable pricing and configuration information on public websites, that is mostly a marketing tool. Cloud developers and operators access configuration and pricing information for each cloud through an application programming interface, or API.
Why should we care?
Liftr Insights is subject to API and/or developer licenses and agreements on some of the pricing and configuration APIs we access.
In our Liftr Cloud Components Tracker, we enumerate the clouds we track. We record all the instance types and sizes that public clouds have to offer in their IaaS services. That means we’re not sampling and then using statistics to fill in the gaps, and we’re also not guessing about what’s in public cloud IaaS.
Our Liftr Cloud Components Tracker customers value our adherence to public cloud licensing and usage terms.
