Liftr Look Ahead: AMD Time Series Data - The Journey to Capture Cloud Market Share
Fighting for Cloud Market Share
Previously, we discussed AMD and its journey to capture significant cloud market share from Intel. Today, we will look at time series data provided by Liftr Insights, showing AMD’s success during 2019.
Liftr Insights Visual Time Series Data for AMD
This map shows regions with AMD’s EPYC instance type deployments, both “Naples” and “Rome” generations, for AWS, Microsoft Azure, Alibaba Cloud, and GCP, although Alibaba Cloud and GCP have not yet deployed production instance types based on AMD EPYC in their public infrastructure as a service offerings.
Note that each data point shown on the map is proportional to the number of instance types and sizes available in that region.
Visually, we can see that AMD EPYC growth is a good indicator that 7nm fab capacity for manufacturing EPYC is ramping production and behaving properly.
In addition to AMD’s data, we have the matching Intel raw data and AWS Graviton data.
Generating Time Series for Processors and Accelerators
Liftr Insights can create visual data like this for any of the processors and accelerators that we track in our Liftr Cloud Components Tracker. The Liftr Cloud Components Tracker allows Liftr Insights to generate a share of deployed instance types metric month-to-month for customers. We can examine share of deployed types month-to-month for new deployments and the total deployed types to-date. For example, Azure deployed AMD Radeon Instinct MI25 GPU accelerators in preview instance types in December 2019.
Our month to month data sets allow investors to make the financial decisions they need for a return on their tech investments.
