Amazon Web Services has decided on a new place to call home for its East Coast corporate headquarters, and that new location is Fairfax County in Northern Virginia. The new AWS building will be located at One Dulles Tower in Herndon, VA.
AWS is currently the leading provider of public cloud computing services, and it’s growing like wildfire. Because of this growth, AWS has been on the lookout for a new headquarters for its eastern US operations.
“Any community would be thrilled to have this employer and this kind of corporate presence, and I am delighted the county’s IT base, workforce and quality of life offer the right mix for the company,” said Gerald L. Gordon, president and CEO of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority, in a statement.
The new office will bring an estimated 1,500 new jobs to the area through a state grant, with incentives including up to $7,000 per new job once a threshold of 600 hires has been met.
Virginia has been in the running against Texas and Washington state and won out due to the region’s proximity to several key federal customers and the region’s vast data center and telecommunications market. Fairfax County is notably close to the MAE-East internet hub, as well.
This announcement does not include the larger second Amazon headquarters which is currently being considered for 20 cities located throughout the United States and Canada.
