Amazon Web Services announced a new agreement to work with the New Taipei City government. In this memorandum of understanding, AWS will help to set up an innovation center in the city of Taipei. This center will support Taiwanese businesses and educational institutions.
This isn’t the first time AWS has worked with city governments to create such a center. AWS partnered to create innovation centers throughout China and Sound Korea.
These cities include Shanghai, Chongqing, and Qingdao in China. In 2016, Amazon partnered with Busan City in Korea to create the Amazon-Busan Cloud Innovation and Technology Center.
“Startups in New Taipei City will be able to access more of the resources they need for development; and local small and medium enterprises will receive support for business enhancement and transformation,” Li-Lun Chu, New Taipei City Mayor, told Taiwan News.
A New NTPC-AWS Joint Innovation Center
AWS will support New Taipei City by providing services such as training and technical support. Businesses throughout Taiwan will be able to take advantage of the center’s services to build and upgrade their technical resources. Educational institutions will have AWS’ support in cultivating new talent.
The goals of the center include creating innovative teams and building an environment that allows new technology companies to flourish.
The New Taipei City government has been working on new ways to spur innovation in the region for some time.
This new joint venture with AWS aims to drive continued innovation and entrepreneurship in the area of cloud technology.
“AWS helps startups around the world with an extensive Cloud services portfolio, constant innovation, and the experience that comes from working with thousands of startups over the years. We are honored to contribute to the cloud computing industry in New Taipei City with this new Joint Innovation Center,” said Alex Yung, Corporate Vice President and Managing Director of AWS Greater China.
The new innovation center will bring a lot of value to Taipei and Taiwan as a whole. For Amazon’s AWS division, it’s an opportunity to grow its reach in a market that is primed for entrepreneurship in the growing cloud market.
